About Us

The purpose of Community Training and Research Institute is to address the needs of individuals and families. Empower them through education and training in budgeting, economic development, parenting, mentoring, positive social behaviors and job training. Fostering and promoting community wide interest and concern for the problems existing in our communities.

Community Training and Research Institute (CTRI) in collaboration with Parents for Public Schools mentored in excess of 60 at risk youth during the 2009 school year. The measurable results documented reflected a 9.73% increase in students GPA. There was also a 32% decrease in negative disciplinary action for students participating in the program.

CTRI has also partnered with the U.S. Naval Support Base in Algiers, Louisiana and trained military personnel to be mentors for students at Harriet Tubman Charter School.

Our Philosophy

During the 1960’s and 70’s the United States, as well as the rest of the world, underwent a major social transition. These changes addressed issues of civil rights, women’s rights and a host of other social issues.  Often, major change is accompanied by confusion. The reality is that though many of the changes we experienced during this period were good, we must conclude that we lost sight of some of the boundaries that defined the terrain of responsible and productive children, women, men and families. The family delivery system of values and social expectations was ruptured. Roles, responsibilities, and norms were taught. CTRI understands the importance of the family delivery system of values and is committed to making it stronger.
